GP Education Webinar: Genetics & Cancer in General Practice - 6019
Date and time
Location
Description
Recent developments in human genetics have significant implications for GPs, as they filter down and play a greater role in day-to-day clinical care. Familial cancer syndromes are estimated to account for 5% of all cancers. They are typically characterised by early age of onset of cancer and the occurrence of cancer in multiple members of the same family. Recognition of these families allows for preventive strategies, to reduce the morbidity and mortality of familial cancer syndromes. GPs are well placed to integrate many genetics issues into routine consultations through risk assessment and management of patients and their families. GPs can assist patients by being informed about genetic testing that is available and being aware of clinical scenarios where genetic testing may be appropriate.
This free education webinar will provide information on the Familial Cancer Program, referral pathways for genetic assessment and the implications faced by general practice.

Bhavya Vora, Associate Genetic Counsellor, Genetic Services of Western Australia
